Stone’s Throw Media – NTAILS Case Study

October 13, 2016 by delroy Ricketts

Stone’s Throw Media is an award-winning creative video production company based in Wolverhampton. They produce professional videos and animations for organisations and companies who wish to improve visibility, enhance engagement and increase retention.

Challenge:

Founder-Directors of Stone’s Throw Media, Matt Weston and Mike Chinn, came to the NTAILS project to explore the potential of innovatively using automatic data capture technologies such as Quick Response (QR) codes and incorporate them into their business activities.

Solution:

Through discussions and practical demonstrations of automatic data capture technologies, a strategy was identified to incorporate QR codes and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to enhance the promotion of Stone’s Throw Media’s activities to their audience and give them an innovative edge over their competitors. Further work was also completed around the personalisation of QR codes to incorporate the company logo and branding.

The support from the NTAILS team has been invaluable – we’ve got an edge in our own promotion and with the promotion we carry out for our clients. Matt Weston – Founder and Director of Stone’s Throw Media

The NTAILS project team identified an opportunity for a graduate placement position of 12 weeks within the company to look at ways that QR code/NFC technologies could be inventively adopted within their business processes. The graduate was assigned to investigate the uses of automatic data capture in a range of different media to act as a trigger for customer engagement. These QR codes and NFC tags have successfully been used in marketing materials such as pop-up banners and flyers to drive more traffic to their website, and in turn generate more business.

It was an opportunity that gave me great experience through a live company with real clients and it’s led to employment with Stone’s Throw Media beyond the 12 week
placement. Tom Williams, STEP Placement at Stone’s Throw Media
