AMI - The Advance Group

In the 1990s, AMI - The Advance Group was the UK's largest microfilm storage company, with customers ranging from Virgin PLC to the Ministry of Defence. In an increasingly digital world, the microfilm industry was rapidly declining, whilst the potential market for electronic document management was potentially limitless.

The company contacted us, and Dr Garry Homer suggested that a Knowledge Transfer Partnership graduate from the University of Wolverhampton might be able to open up technological pathways into this untapped market.

Three successive KTP graduates introduced the company to LAN based imaging, document imaging systems and an internet-based client interface that enables clients to securely store, index and retrieve documents remotely.

AMI is now Britain's premier document management solutions and services provider. In 2002, the company won its largest ever contract, which involves the transfer of 55 million documents on to its online document management system. This successful technology transfer has resulted in a rebirth of the business, a massive increase in profitability and staff numbers, and a confident approach to embracing further technological developments.

Imagine that you need to supply 2,000 vegetable samosas on a given day, half to an event in Sheffield, the other half to an event in Bristol. You have staff, vehicles, production, accounting and suppliers to co-ordinate. You know that if all the elements of your operation were linked by mobile IT, everything would be so much more efficient. But how do you go about it?

Quality Sweet Centre was established in 1979 and provides a full catering service to a range of customers for events, business meetings and Asian weddings.

A typical wedding service may provide catering for up to 600 guests. The company is an approved caterer for a number of busy venues and manages many simultaneous events.

Harvir Sahota, Director of the Quality Sweet Centre, engaged the INITIATIVE team to develop a comprehensive IT solution for the complex administration involved in the management of several large-scale events at the same time.

We have provided a comprehensive system that handles quotations, scheduling, order processing, stock control and event management. The database has enabled analysis of bookings and total requirements over a given period, enabling the management of the business to gain a much better understanding of its performance.
