IT Futures staff have been providing technical support and expertise for the University of Wolverhampton’s Business Solutions Vouchers Scheme.

The scheme aimed to support the economic regeneration of Wolverhampton and the West Midlands by encouraging innovation and knowledge transfer in local businesses.   Vouchers worth up to £5,000 could be redeemed against the cost of advice, expertise and access to specialist equipment or services provided by the University of Wolverhampton in relation to specific innovation related projects.

IT Futures secured a number of vouchers and consultants worked with a range of businesses from around the West Midlands region offering practical advice and expertise.

‘Imagine Virtual Training’ owned by Karen Turner was a recipient of one of the Business Solutions Vouchers.  Based at the e-Innovation Centre at Telford, the company offers direct training via a virtual classroom.  Karen was looking to expand her services by providing a unique training service to business professionals by offering tailored sessions via their desktop.  Each session benefits from live interaction with a trained instructor after research showed that there was a lack of virtual classrooms providing focused business training.

IT Futures provided technical investigative and evaluative expertise as part of the support which included the identification and integration of the suitable online teaching tools.  Additional support included website and accompanying Content Management System (CMS) development and training on website optimization, social media and online marketing practices.

Karen said ‘I put in a bid for the Business Solutions Voucher scheme when I was planning to launch my new business, a Virtual Online Training Classroom. I needed a platform which allowed me to publicise my training, but more than that – a complete solution so that clients could browse, choose a course and pay, with invitations to the training session fired off to participants so that they could join the 2 hour online session.

With the help of IT Futures I determined which Virtual Classroom system was best for me, and this was integrated into a database system that could keep records of those trained and collect data from visitors to the site who wished to subscribe for more information. The model has kept my administration time low and allowed me to build a successful business in a relatively short time. The staff I worked with were key to determining how to advertise the business.  They also helped with linking my social media so that my company ranks high in search engine lists when new clients are searching for professional IT training to enhance their skills. Clients now save time using the software they already have installed on their computers. I am very happy with the work that has been done and it has given my business, Imagine Virtual Training Limited, a flying start’
